Discharging 1st shipment responsible soy

Cefetra not only puts a great deal of energy into quality assurance and food safety, it also acts responsibly when it comes to sustainability. The company aims to establish the maximum integrity of the supply chain and the guaranteeing of sustainable raw material flows.

As well as being a member of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil, Cefetra also became a member of the Round Table on Responsible Soy in 2007. Via these platforms, producers, trade organisations, customers and non-governmental organisations work together to develop sustainability criteria that can be applied for the production of palm and soya products in the near future in close collaboration with the chain partners. Cefetra is also member of the newly-formed UK roundtable which serves as a platform for discussion to promote and work towards increased volumes of sustainable soya.

A good example of Cefetra's commitment to sustainability is the responsible soya programme that Cefetra started several years ago. Cefetra started this programme by promoting the importance and opportunities of certified responsible soya in the chain. Due to the position in the chain Cefetra is able to create awareness, select the right partners and organize sustainable chains.

Cefetra's knowledge of the supply chain proved to be very important for the implementation of certified responsible soya. Cefetra organized the first shipment of certified responsible soya into Europe, together with Dutch cooperative Campina. In the years after that, Cefetra developed to be the key partner for different initiatives, such as the Dutch Foundation for Responsible Soya Chain Transition.

Cefetra has started the Certified Responsible Soya standard (CRS, click here for website), which is a zero-deforestation standard, together with Control Union. And Cefetra is the key supplier/partner of the Belgian compound feed association (BEMEFA) in their project regarding certification of responsible soya. Cefetra has been the front runner in the supply of certified responsible soya into the European market and will continue this role in the years to come.

Cefetra's knowledge regarding the implementation of certified flows, can also be of great value with respect to other raw materials. This is why Cefetra is investigating the opportunities of similar programmes for other feed raw materials. An example of this is certified responsible palm kernel expellers. Of course, the involvement of our partners on both the supply and customer level is crucial in this process. And thus, we hope more partners will endorse our initiative to establish the maximum integrity of the supply chain and to safeguard sustainable raw material flows.
